ÖBB is expanding the West Line between Linz-Kleinmünchen and Linz Central Station (via the marshalling yard, logistics center and the Linz rail triangle) to four tracks, creating capacity for a 15-minute S-Bahn frequency and enabling a new Franckviertel/Lastenstraße stop plus a tram extension to Pichlinger See with a park-and-ride facility. According to the official ÖBB report "Zahlen Daten Fakten 2024/25," the investment volume is about EUR 618 million. In June 2026 ÖBB confirmed to Linz's transport committee that, despite earlier rumors, there is no delay and the original 2033 completion target remains on track.
