Boden inaugurates 6 km rail line to Stegra steel plant

On 9 June 2026 Boden inaugurated the new rail connection to its industrial park, linking the emerging plant of steelmaker Stegra with the Malmbanan and the national network; it has six kilometres of track and nine bridges, was built by Peab and finished a month ahead of schedule. The SEK 800 million (EUR 73 million) flowed without state aid through a public-private partnership: Polar Structure is responsible for financing, construction and future operation and holds 91% of Boden Järnväg AB, the remaining 9% belongs to Boden municipality, which stands behind deficits of up to SEK 30 million a year for five years should Stegra become insolvent.
