Bulgaria gets fourth EU recovery plan payment of almost €1bn

- On 19 Jun 2026 Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov announces that the European Commission has assessed Bulgaria's fourth payment request positively
Almost €1bn is to arrive in the finance ministry's account by the end of July; according to Pekanov 23 of 26 milestones are met
The Commission assessed the milestones of the fourth payment largely positively, which according to Pekanov was made possible by results on anti-corruption and rule-of-law reforms. According to the report, three measures remain open (culture, water and sewage, integrated urban transport) and the fifth and last request must be completed by the end of August (BTA, 19 Jun 2026).
