The Rhaetian Railway (RhB), the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) and the Graubünden civil engineering office are planning a new alignment for the railway and the N28 national road between Jenaz and Dalvazza; total costs are CHF 467.5 million (CHF 298.5 million rail, CHF 169 million road). The centrepiece is RhB's 1,377-metre single-track Fideris tunnel with two escape and rescue galleries plus seven replaced or new bridges; trains are to run at up to 120 km/h there instead of today's 45 km/h, saving more than two minutes. Preparatory works and groundbreaking are foreseen for 2028, the tunnel is due to open in 2034, the N28 and local road are to be inaugurated in 2037, and the Fideris station stop closes from 2030. The date is a placeholder: it is the year 2037 from the milestone plan; announced on 23 Jun 2026 (information event). (LOK Report, 24 Jun 2026)
