Latvia's state forest company Latvijas valsts meži bought about 5,800 hectares of land (4,800 hectares forested) in Ludza district from Swedish owners — the largest land purchase in its history. The deal was structured as the acquisition of two Latvia-registered companies; the government approved it on 30 June 2026.
