Banedanmark is electrifying the 108 km double-track railway line between Fredericia and Aarhus as part of the electrification programme for the Jutland main line; overhead-line masts are being installed and around 33 bridges are being rebuilt to provide the necessary clearance, alongside vegetation clearance along the corridor. Completion was originally planned for end of 2026, but Banedanmark has announced a delay due to insufficient progress by the contractor, with no new schedule confirmed yet. Update (6 Jul 2026): According to the magazine Jernbanen, citing Banedanmark, electric train services between Fredericia, Aarhus and Aalborg will not be possible until 2027; the start had originally been announced for December 2026. The cause is delayed overhead-line work around Aarhus station and on the Limfjord bridge near Aalborg, which also pushes back the overhead line on the route from Copenhagen to the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, and the new IC5 maintenance centre in Brabrand can only be used once it receives traction power from Aarhus. The date is a placeholder: only the year 2027 is given, and an exact date is still open (LOK Report, 6 Jul 2026).
