Copenhagen extends metro line M4 to Nordhavn C

· Transport / rail

Location
Nordhavn, Copenhagen · 🇩🇰 Denmark
Project
Copenhagen Metro M4 – Orientkaj–Nordhavn C extension
Investment
approx. DKK 2.1 billion per City of Copenhagen (construction contract to MT Højgaard approx. DKK 900 million / EUR 121 million)
Status
In planning (construction preparation/tender)

The M4 line is being extended roughly 1.6–1.7 km beyond the current Orientkaj terminus to a new terminus, Nordhavn C (at Tunnelfabrikken), with an intermediate station Levantkaj, to serve the Ydre Nordhavn development area (expected ca. 35,000 future residents). The City of Copenhagen puts the cost at approximately DKK 2.1 billion; an EU-wide tender for the construction works ran in 2025, and MT Højgaard Danmark was selected as main contractor. Construction is due to start in 2027, with opening targeted for 2030 (originally planned for 2032). The preceding Orientkaj and Nordhavn stations themselves already opened in 2020.
