On 28 April 2026 Iarnród Éireann confirmed the start of the main construction phase for the expansion of Oranmore station, after preparatory works and an underpass were completed in 2025. The scheme adds a new 1 km section of track and a 185 m platform with stairs, a lift and a ramp; because the Athenry–Galway line is single-track, trains will be able to pass each other there, and the number of services doubles to a train every 30 minutes in each direction. The contractor is Triur Construction, with works planned to start in May 2026; the report gives no investment figure. The date is a placeholder: the article names only the end of 2027, so 31 December 2027 is used. (LOK Report, 13 May 2026)
