- Danish parliament passes nitrogen regulation law
The Danish parliament passed the contested nitrogen regulation law on 3 Sept 2026 after days of farmer protests; it implements the 2024 'green tripartite agreement' and introduces binding requirements to cut agricultural nitrogen runoff into waterways. Vegetable growers won a one-year exemption after protests; several Venstre MPs voted against their own party line.
After days of tractor protests by farmers, the Folketing approved the nitrogen regulation law by a large majority on 3 Sept 2026; it implements the 2024 green tripartite agreement and structurally affects the whole Danish agricultural sector (source: Kristeligt Dagblad, 3 Sept 2026).
