The new double-track tram line (approx. 10 km) links Hakaniemi with the island of Laajasalo via three new bridges, including the 1,228 m Kruunuvuori Bridge, Finland's longest bridge. 23 ForCity Smart Artic X54 trams have been ordered; the first bridge (Merihaansilta) opened in June 2025, Phase 1 (to Yliskylä) is scheduled to open in 2027, and Phase 2 (extension to the Central Railway Station) is planned for 2028. Update (September 2026): The City of Helsinki announced 7 November 2026 as the start of tram service across the Crown Bridges — earlier than originally planned. Lines 11 (Pasila–Kruunuvuorenranta) and 12 (Rautatientori–Yliskylä, about 20 minutes) will run; the 1.2 km Kruunuvuorensilta has been open to pedestrians and cyclists since April 2026.
