- Location
- Žilina – Vrútky – Ružomberok – Liptovský Mikuláš – Poprad (Žilina and Prešov regions), Slovakia · 🇸🇰 Slovakia
- Project
- Žilina–Poprad railway upgrade
- Investment
- not quantified for the full Žilina–Poprad section; the already completed Poprad–Lučivná sub-section cost about EUR 97–106 million, while the entire Žilina–Košice corridor is estimated at roughly EUR 4.5–5.5 billion over 20–25 years
- Status
- Under construction / in planning (phased implementation)
The line between Žilina and Poprad (via Vrútky, Ružomberok and Liptovský Mikuláš) is part of the wider modernization of Slovakia's Žilina–Košice railway, raising the maximum speed from about 80–110 km/h today to 160 km/h, including new ETCS Level 2 signalling. The driver is the EU's TEN-T core network requirement to complete the upgrade by 2030; according to infrastructure manager ŽSR, the overall project is split into several construction stages delivered in phases (the Poprad–Lučivná sub-section, for example, is already finished). Investment figures exist for individual sub-sections but not as one aggregate total for the whole Žilina–Poprad line.
