On 25 May 2026 Škoda Transtech invited employees, under Finnish co-determination law, to negotiations on restructuring at its Otanmäki plant that could lead to permanent job cuts of at most 200 of the roughly 600 positions (one third); other measures such as working-time and part-time arrangements may also be discussed. The trigger is uncertainty over the tram contract for the city of Helsinki: the Helsinki Region Transport authority excluded the company from the tender and the Finnish Market Court upheld the exclusion. Škoda Transtech is one of the main industrial employers in the Kainuu region; it says existing and future orders are not at risk and that the plant will continue to be used for business in the Nordic region. (LOK Report, 25 May 2026) Update (25 August 2026): Škoda Transtech has concluded its negotiations and will cut 117 jobs instead of the up to 200 first estimated; targeted temporary layoffs remain possible. (Škoda Group, 25 August 2026)
