Status
Put into operation (reported on 18 August 2026)

On the Helsinki–Riihimäki rail project the western additional track between Kytömaa and Ainola has entered service, so the main line from Helsinki to Purola in Järvenpää now has four tracks throughout and a bottleneck on Finland's busiest rail section is removed. The two new tracks beside the existing double track were built in 2023–2026 (the eastern one opened at the end of 2024); Ainola is also getting a new station with step-free, covered platforms, and an underpass with lifts is due in August 2027. The EU co-financed project runs in three phases: the first ended at the end of 2024, and the second (2021–2030) adds further additional and freight tracks between Kerava, Järvenpää, Jokela and Riihimäki, including about 20 km of four-track line between Kerava and Jokela. The date is a placeholder: the article names no day of commissioning, and the report date is used. (LOK Report, 18 Aug 2026)
