Banedanmark plans Ringsted bottleneck upgrade for completion by 2032

· Transport / rail

Location
Ringsted, Copenhagen–Odense line · 🇩🇰 Denmark
Project
Capacity and speed upgrade of the railway at Ringsted (Copenhagen–Odense, up to 200 km/h)
Investment
EUR 270 million (DKK 2 billion, 2026 prices) under the Infrastructure Plan 2035, plus EUR 94 million (DKK 0.7 billion) in additional funding
Status
Planned (detailed planning, environmental hearing, construction act expected in 2027)

Ringsted is a pinch point on the Danish rail network because delays there have nationwide effects; east of the town an expansion with better crossing options is to be built and the track upgraded for up to 200 km/h, so that Copenhagen–Odense can be covered in no more than an hour. The Infrastructure Plan 2035 earmarks EUR 270 million (DKK 2 billion, 2026 prices) for this, and a further EUR 94 million (DKK 0.7 billion) was added last year. Announced on 25 February 2026: following the coalition's decision, detailed planning, the environmental impact hearing and the construction act, which could be presented in 2027, come next; station works are due to finish in 2030 and the unbundling of the lines in 2032. The date is a placeholder: only the year 2032 is given (LOK Report, 25 Feb 2026).
