- Location
- Riga (Zasulauks–Bolderāja line, within the city of Riga) · 🇱🇻 Latvia
- Project
- Electrification and resumption of passenger service Riga–Bolderāja
- Investment
- Line electrification approx. EUR 72.7m (Trackopedia, stimulus package/EU funds); separately, operator Vivi plans 9 battery electric multiple units (BEMU) for approx. EUR 75–76m (EU Recovery Fund) for the Bolderāja–Riga–Sigulda routes
- Status
- Under construction, repeatedly delayed (electrification/platforms)
The Zasulauks–Bolderāja branch line in Riga, until now freight-only, is being electrified and fitted with new passenger platforms (e.g. Iļģuciems, Bolderāja) for use by state operator Vivi (Pasažieru vilciens). Originally targeted for end of 2026, Latvian Railways (LDz) has repeatedly pushed back completion per LSM.lv reporting (most recently toward second half of 2026/early 2027); separately, nine new battery electric multiple units (contract with Škoda Group, Dec. 2025) are meant to serve Bolderāja from 2029. No firm opening date for full passenger service is confirmed in sources, so 2027-12-31 should be read as an approximate, unconfirmed target rather than a certain date.
