Banedanmark is investigating a roughly 30 km new single-track railway between Aarhus and Silkeborg for battery-powered trains running up to 160 km/h, with possible stations at Galten, Harlev, Låsby and Hårup; the new direct link is meant to cut travel time significantly versus today's route via Ry. In spring 2024 three route alignments were shortlisted for further study; environmental and nature surveys follow in 2025/26, an at-least-eight-week public hearing in winter 2026/27, after which a political decision on construction will be made. The project is part of Denmark's Infrastructure Plan 2035 (passed with a broad majority in 2021); Banedanmark has not yet stated an official completion date — the source list assumes 2040.
