Layoffs

Zalando to close its Erfurt logistics centre, affecting 2,700 jobs

Zalando is closing its logistics centre in Erfurt (its oldest centre) – around 2,700 employees are affected (about a sixth of the total workforce). Reason: a structural realignment of the Europe-wide logistics network following the takeover of About You; some contracts with external service providers are expiring. A new logistics centre with 1,700 jobs is being built in Gießen. The Verdi union and politicians criticise the decision; Zalando plans support and transfer offers. Cross-reference: the closure was sealed by arbitration award on 9 July 2026 (closures entry of 11 July 2026 with the final figure of around 2,100 affected); the figure is carried there and set to null here to avoid double counting.
