Slovak railway ZSSK dismisses about 200 staff, mainly in ticket sales

The state-owned passenger rail operator ZSSK is dismissing about 191 to 200 employees in 2026, around 4% of its workforce, mainly ticket-sales staff as well as administrative and support staff; operational railway positions are unaffected. The process began in April 2026 and is to conclude by the end of the year; the reasons are the digitalisation of ticket sales, declining use of ticket offices and fiscal consolidation pressure (Eurofound European Restructuring Monitor, April 2026).
