US pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly is building a new €2.3 bn production facility in Alzey for diabetes and obesity medications (incl. Mounjaro), operational from late 2027. In June 2026 Lilly announced it would halve the investment to around €1.15 bn over Germany's planned health-insurance reform — creating only about 500 jobs instead of 1,000.
