MegaHub Lehrte is a rapid transshipment terminal for combined rail freight on the site of the former Lehrte marshalling yard near Hanover. Following groundbreaking in May 2018, the roughly 120,000 m² facility with six tracks (for trains up to 740 m long) and three 82-meter gantry cranes went into operation on 15 June 2021. The federal government and Deutsche Bahn invested a total of about EUR 170 million; direct train-to-train transshipment cuts handling time from about twelve hours to under three.
