German cabinet approves continuation of the federal subsidy for transmission grid fees for 2027–2029 (EUR 5.525 billion a year)

Electricity customers (households and businesses) and the four transmission system operators Amprion, 50Hertz, TenneT and TransnetBW are affected. The federal government will pay around EUR 5.525 billion a year from the Climate and Transformation Fund for 2027–2029 to dampen grid fees — about EUR 1 billion less than the EUR 6.5 billion subsidy for 2026.

Cabinet decision of 2 September 2026 amending the Energy Industry Act (EnWG); the bill still requires approval by the Bundestag and Bundesrat.
