The roughly ten-kilometre final construction section of the four-track expansion of the Nuremberg–Bamberg line, between Altendorf and Strullendorf, was commissioned during a line closure from 25 August to 9 September 2025. This completes the entire 52 km four-track expansion Nuremberg–Bamberg (VDE 8.1), into which the federal government, the state of Bavaria, municipalities and DB jointly invested around EUR 2 billion; DB had been working on this final section since 2021.
