Double-tracking was completed by the end of 2012 and electrification followed in October 2022; with the timetable change on 11 December 2022, the new Regio-S-Bahn line RS3 began electric passenger service between Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven, replacing the former RE19. Total project costs were put at approximately EUR 1.1 billion as of early 2020.
