Hamburg fixes U5 route to Lurup and Osdorf

On 27 May 2026 Hamburg's Senate approved the preferred route for extending the U5 from Arenen via Lurup Mitte (Lüttkamp) to Osdorfer Born (Kroonhorst, next to the Born Center); it is now in preliminary planning, due to be completed by the end of the year. Connection for about 64,000 residents is envisaged for around 2040, with some 33,000 passengers a day expected on the section and the whole line growing from 315,000 to 345,000 daily passengers. Two variants via Lurup Süd were ruled out because of possible interference with research at DESY and XFEL. The date is a placeholder: the article says only around 2040; costs are not specified.
