The new electronic interlocking in Rostock's seaport went into service on 21 Apr 2026, replacing seven older signal boxes and controlling shunting for train formation. The building contains 270 m³ of timber, is nicknamed Roter Riese and generates its own power via rooftop solar. It is one element of an overall investment of over EUR 300 million from federal and DB funds; tracks, points, overhead wires and lighting across the port are to be renewed by the end of 2032, and ground was broken in April 2023 (LOK Report, 21 Apr 2026).
