The binational Administrative Commission of the River Plate (CARP) awarded the contract for dredging, maintenance, widening and potential improvement works on the Martín García Channel to Belgian-Luxembourgish dredging group Jan De Nul. Its bid of USD 65,994,000 was well below that of fellow European competitor Boskalis International Uruguay S.A. (USD 149,279,315).
The contract, reported on 4 August 2026, runs for five years with an option to extend for a further five. The channel stretches about 106.5 km from km 39 of the Río de la Plata common zone channel to km 0 of the Uruguay River and is a key trade route between Argentina and Uruguay. Jan De Nul had already been reported as the best bidder in early July 2026 (dredgingtoday, 2 July 2026). Notably, both bidders named in the procedure were European dredging groups.
