NRW tax administration opens new data centre in Kaarst

The North Rhine-Westphalia tax administration opened its new data centre (RZF) in Kaarst on 25 September 2026; it runs the IT of the state tax authority with more than 100 tax offices and over 30,000 staff. The new complex of around 37,000 sq m gross floor area comprises an office building, a print centre and the data centre; heating and cooling are largely carbon-neutral thanks to 50 geothermal probes, supplemented by solar panels and waste-heat recovery. The foundation stone had been laid in October 2023; the ministry did not state an investment figure (NRW Ministry of Finance, 25 September 2026; Datacenter-Insider, 30 April 2025).
