The extension of Frankfurt's U-Bahn line U5 from the main station into the Europaviertel comprises about 2.7 km of new, mostly underground track with four additional stations (working titles Güterplatz, Emser Brücke, Europagarten, Wohnpark). According to project company SBEV, costs have risen to 587 million euros (initial estimate about 281 million euros); the completion date, once planned for 2027, has been pushed back to at the earliest 2029 due to supply-chain bottlenecks, staff shortages, and re-tendered procurement procedures. The project aims to connect roughly 30,000 people who live and work in the Europaviertel to the subway network.
