Deutsche Bahn is expanding the four-kilometre section between Frankfurt (Main) Stadion station and the Hauptbahnhof to a continuous six tracks to separate long-distance from regional traffic; works include two additional long-distance tracks, a new third bridge over the Main river, plus further bridge structures, noise barriers and retaining walls. Investment volume is about EUR 440 million; as of 09/2025 core-drilling ground investigations up to 65 metres deep are underway for the new Main bridges. DB states the two additional long-distance tracks are due to be completed by 2030, with the overall project — including replacement of the Alte Niederräder Brücke — finished by end of 2032 (the third Main bridge is to enter service already by end of 2028). Update (18 Sep 2026): According to DB InfraGO and Hesse's transport minister Mansoori during a site visit on Rail Day, the project is keeping to its milestones, quality and budget (about EUR 440 million). At the end of October 2026 the roughly 50 m crossing structure (a bowstring arch bridge) near the stadium is due to be slid into place; it carries the Forsthaus line over the new long-distance tracks and frees up space for the two additional tracks. Seven bridges in total are being widened or newly built, including the third Main bridge; the article gives 2032 for the overall project and either 2030 or 2032 for the two tracks (LOK Report, 18 Sep 2026).
