As part of the 2026 "Qualitätsoffensive", DB InfraGO renovated the 163 km Hamburg–Hannover line between 1 May and 10 July 2026: 81 km of track, 44 switches, two railway bridges and four stations (incl. Stelle, Suderburg, Großburgwedel, Langenhagen) were renewed, at a cost of around EUR 300 million. Trains resumed service from the evening of 10 July (freight) / morning of 11 July 2026 (passenger); remaining works on the Suderburg pedestrian tunnel continue until end of July 2026. ETCS is NOT part of this measure — it is planned for the separate full corridor "Generalsanierung" scheduled for 2029 (potentially alongside a new-build line).
