The new roughly 4 km long S-Bahn line S15 (Berlin's shortest line) has connected Gesundbrunnen via Wedding to Hauptbahnhof (provisional tunnel platform under Invalidenstrasse) at 10-minute intervals since 15 June 2026. It forms the first construction section of the larger S21 project (north-south city S-Bahn) and opened after massive delays: planning began back in 1992, original completion target was 2017, construction started in 2010. Further sections (Hauptbahnhof–Potsdamer Platz, planning approval expected 2026, operation mid-to-late 2030s; and Potsdamer Platz–Yorckstrasse) are still in planning or under construction.
