Planning permission exists for reactivating the Horlofftalbahn between Wölfersheim-Södel and Hungen, and the project has been included in the federal GVFG programme; under the current schedule it is due to open at the 2028/2029 timetable change. The Hessian transport ministry said so at an event on the Lumdatalbahn, where permit planning has been under way since the second quarter of 2026 at a cost of just under EUR 63 million, and the state is not yet naming an opening date. The date is a placeholder for the timetable change at the end of 2028 (LOK Report, 27 Aug 2026).
