Status
Opened on 31 August 2026

On 31 August 2026 the Verbindungsbahn between Hamburg Hbf and Altona reopened after its closure; the first train over the new Sternbrücke was the RE 70 from Kiel at about 4:15, and on average some 1,000 long-distance, regional and S-Bahn trains a day use it. The 108 m, 3,700 t bridge, built over 14 months, was moved about 500 m and lowered into place on 30/31 July 2026; the closure that began on 17 July was extended in July from mid to end of August because of extra overhead-line masts and ground conditions that differed from surveys. Works for relocating Altona station to Diebsteich were carried out in the same window. (LOK Report, 31 Aug 2026)
