Report: Cummins mulls closing Marktheidenfeld plant, 350 jobs at risk

US engine maker and automotive supplier Cummins has confirmed that it has opened a formal information and consultation procedure for its Marktheidenfeld-Altfeld site (Main-Spessart district); according to the IG Metall Würzburg union on 17 September 2026, closure of the entire plant with around 350 jobs is on the table. No date for ending operations has been set, and IG Metall is calling for alternatives to be seriously examined and for investment and employment at the site to be secured. According to the union, just under 500 jobs were already lost at Marktheidenfeld's larger industrial employers between 2019 and 2024 (ad-hoc-news.de and infranken.de citing IG Metall Würzburg, 17/19 Sept 2026).
