Insolvency proceedings under self-administration were opened over Düsseldorf fashion chain Adenauer & Co. at the Düsseldorf district court effective 1 August 2026; the petition dates back to 15 May 2026 and the case became public on 3 August 2026. Around 200 employees at 59 locations in Germany, Spain and Austria are affected. The founder, a grandson of Konrad Adenauer, blames misappropriated funds linked to an investment in Turkish manufacturing, putting the damage in the mid single-digit millions. Store closures during the restructuring cannot be ruled out; no list has been published. Second source: Handelsblatt (3 August 2026). Outcome (6 August 2026): Insolvent fashion chain Adenauer & Co. has found an investor in Hamburg-based BK Retail Group, which is taking over the business; about 40 of roughly 200 employees will lose their jobs and 15 of the 59 stores are set to close, while the remaining locations continue operating under the new owner.
