The disused Siemensbahn S-Bahn line between Jungfernheide and Gartenfeld (4.5 km, stations Wernerwerk, Siemensstadt, Gartenfeld) is being reactivated; dismantling of the old tracks began as early as September 2020, and structural surveying of the viaduct is under way. As of 29 June 2026, the tender documents schedule the start of construction for 14 August 2026; the construction plan spans exactly 875 days. The actual work on the track superstructure and the embankment between Wernerwerk and Gartenfeld begins in 2027, and the stations are to be renovated from 2028. Entry into service is planned for December 2029. Costs were estimated at EUR 880 million in 2024, against around EUR 320 million in a 2021 estimate. An extension to Hakenfelde is planned as a second construction phase. Note: no report has yet confirmed that the construction start scheduled for 14 August 2026 actually took place. Update (29 Jun 2026): First works began on 29 Jun 2026 with a symbolic start signal from DB, the Land of Berlin, VBB and the Spandau district. A test field is first being used to trial repair methods on the listed 1928 steel viaduct, which consists of 71 individual structures and shows deformation and corrosion damage. The line of about 4.5 km is to be reactivated with two tracks and modern equipment (LOK Report, 29 Jun 2026).
