ETCS Level 2 enters regular service between Erfurt and Eisenach

On the roughly 54 km Erfurt–Eisenach section upgraded for 200 km/h, the ETCS Level 2 train control system was installed; it has been available for regular operation since 8 August 2018, following an approximately eight-month delay. Depending on the sub-section, speeds of 140 to 200 km/h are permitted (Gotha town crossing excepted at 180 km/h), and a Radio Block Centre (RBC) was established in Eisenach. Around EUR 94 million was invested in the corridor's 200 km/h upgrade programme.
