BARD Offshore 1 is located about 100 km northwest of Borkum in the North Sea and has an installed capacity of 400 MW from 80 BARD 5.0 turbines (5 MW each, 90 m hub height, 122 m rotor diameter). Construction was completed in July 2013 (official inauguration in August 2013); technical problems drove investment costs up to roughly EUR 3 billion, contributing to the project company's 2013 bankruptcy. It is operated by Ocean Breeze Energy GmbH & Co. KG, owned since 2019 by funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management.
