The roughly 7.9 km Waldkappel–Ringgau section of the A 44 (VDE project No. 15, Kassel–Eisenach) opened to traffic on 9/10 December 2024 after about three years of construction, together with the directly adjoining 3.9 km Ringgau–Sontra-West section. The combined roughly 12 km new-build stretch includes three tunnels (Trimberg 585 m, Spitzenberg 599 m, Boyneburg 1,700 m) and three valley bridges (Wehretal 669 m, Netratal 264 m, Ulfetal 168 m). The client is Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, with DEGES as project sponsor; construction on the roughly 70 km overall VDE 15 project began in October 2014.
