SMA Solar opens new Gigawatt Factory in Niestetal for €80m

SMA Solar Technology opened its new "Gigawatt Factory" at its Niestetal (Hesse) headquarters on 17 Sept 2026; the company puts the investment at around €80 million, of which roughly €50 million is leasing expenditure and €30 million for production infrastructure and equipment. At full capacity the plant, on a 46,000 m² site, reaches an annual production capacity of more than 60 gigawatts of inverters. SMA gave no figure for newly created jobs (pv magazine, 17 Sept 2026).
