Bielefeld–Hannover rail line narrows route choice to two options
- Location
- East Westphalia-Lippe (Bielefeld) – Hanover region, North Rhine-Westphalia/Lower Saxony · 🇩🇪 Germany
- Project
- Bielefeld–Hannover new railway line
- Investment
- approx. EUR 8.4 billion (total funding need, BMDV estimate 2022; earlier 2015 planning assumed EUR 7.2 billion)
- Status
- In planning (corridor selection narrowed in December 2025 to the two best route options, V3 and V4)
The roughly 91 km (as the crow flies) new line would connect Bielefeld and Hanover via two additional tracks at up to 300 km/h, cutting travel time between the main stations from 48 to 31 minutes; it forms part of the Hamm–Hanover upgrade project under the Deutschlandtakt plan. In December 2025 DB InfraGO narrowed twelve route corridors down to the two best options (V3, V4); no firm completion date has been set, though the source list assumes 2040.
