BVG began rebuilding the Waisentunnel on 13 Jul 2026, after planning approval was granted in January 2026. The tunnel links the small-profile line U5 with the large-profile network (U6 to U9) and has been closed for about ten years, so cars for workshop visits have to be moved by low-loader. The first trains are due four years after construction starts; the date is a placeholder: the article only gives the build time, which is counted as July 2030. Work under the Spree is split into two sections so shipping can continue (LOK Report, 13 Jul 2026).
