Status
Planned (full closure from 11 December 2026 to 9 July 2027)

DB InfraGO will fully close the Sieg line between Siegen and Hennef from 11 December 2026 to 9 July 2027 and use the closure to renew 24 km of track, 20 switches, three railway bridges and two smaller road bridges as well as Eiserfeld station, plus platform extensions at three stations. The closure originally planned as far as Troisdorf was shortened after negotiations; the RE 9 will not run between Cologne and Siegen and a rail replacement service is being prepared. According to the contracting authorities, double-tracking is not realistic before the 2040s; a first report on the plan appeared on 18 February 2026 (LOK Report, 19 Feb 2026).
