St. Joseph-Krankenhaus (450+ employees) has filed early for insolvency under self-administration due to chronic losses since 2021 and rising costs for personnel/energy. Hospital operations continue without restriction. Salaries are secured through insolvency benefit until January, and taken over again by the hospital from February. The Catholic sponsor can no longer provide financial support permanently. A structural realignment is planned, with closure ruled out by law (public services). Talks with politicians, cooperations, and a change of sponsor or investor are possible. Update (08.09.2026): The Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm district council voted unanimously to take over the insolvent hospital, which employs around 450 people; the district is to become sole shareholder from 01.10.2026. Operations continued throughout the insolvency proceedings; approval from the supervisory authority in Trier and the Diocese of Trier is still required (medinfoweb, 11.09.2026: https://medinfoweb.de/eifelkreis-bitburg-pruem-uebernimmt-insolventes-st-joseph-krankenhaus-pruem-ab-oktober/).
