The A 143 Halle western bypass is a 21.6 km four-lane new-build motorway forming part of the planned ring road around Halle (German Unity Transport Project No. 13). The southern section (9.0 km) has been open since October 2004, while the roughly 13 km northern section - including a 968 m bridge over the Saale river and a 210 m noise-protection tunnel - has been under construction in several lots since 2019. According to project sponsor DEGES, the Saale crossing is due to be completed by 2027; a date for full traffic opening of the motorway is not yet set pending completion of extensive remediation of former mining land south of the Saale.
