On the 29 km Lübbenau–Cottbus line a second track including overhead lines and signalling is being built, twelve level crossings adapted, and six bridges plus 18 culverts widened; the stations Raddusch, Kunersdorf and Kolkwitz each get a second platform. Detailed execution planning runs until autumn 2026, after which the line will be fully closed for about a year from late 2026 (replacement bus service); from late 2027 a stable 30-minute service between Berlin and Cottbus is expected. The roughly EUR 265 million project is funded under the Coal Regions Investment Act plus seed funding from the state of Brandenburg, part of the i2030 programme.
