Bakery Wahl files for insolvency, affecting 400 jobs

Large-scale bakery Wahl of Bestensee has filed for insolvency under self-administration, citing rising costs and consumer restraint; around 400 employees across more than 50 outlets in Berlin and Brandenburg are affected, over 70 of them at the production site. Several outlets (including Mittenwalde, Zossen and Schmöckwitz) already closed on 1 August 2026, while the Bestensee production site is to keep running for now. The self-administration is supervised by lawyer Jörg Franzke.
