Following the Bundestag, the Bundesrat approved a renewed fuel tax cut under its fast-track procedure on 25.09.2026: the energy tax on diesel and petrol falls by 14.04 cents per litre each from 01.10. to 31.12.2026, which including VAT amounts in theory to up to 17 cents. In the Bundestag the measure was justified by the economic impact of the Iran war on fuel prices (Bundesrat, 25.09.2026).
