JD.com is acquiring the MediaMarkt and Saturn parent company Ceconomy and using its around 1,000 branches and online platform to expand in Europe. Update (14 September 2026): Completion is still pending. The European Commission is reviewing the takeover under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation; in August 2026 JD.com offered commitments (access to its European logistics and technology infrastructure at market terms), which competitors criticise as insufficient. A decision is due by 23 October 2026 (etailment, 14 September 2026). Update (3 November 2026): On 2 November 2026 the European Commission approved the takeover under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation, conditional on JD.com and Ceconomy complying with commitments (intra-group dealings on market terms, logistics and technology services also offered to third parties on the same terms); on 3 November 2026 Ceconomy announced that all conditions to completion of the offer had been met (European Commission, 2 November 2026; Ceconomy, 3 November 2026).
