With the December 2020 timetable change (13 Dec 2020), a new electronic interlocking (ESTW) went into service on the Darmstadt-Kranichstein–Dieburg–Babenhausen line, centrally controlled from Dieburg station, replacing the 1960s push-button interlocking "Kf" at Darmstadt-Kranichstein. The project (client: DB Netz AG) renewed signals, point machines and cabling along the route and built new modular buildings for the Siemens ESTW technology at Darmstadt-Kranichstein and Babenhausen; dismantling of the old control and safety equipment was carried out by STRABAG Rail from December 2020 to February 2021. No specific investment figure is given in the available sources.
